CESSATION OF ACTIVITY

• Cessation of activity
Upon cessation of activity, the authorization holder is required to:
a) design and implement an authorized decommissioning plan, where applicable;
b) transfer the sources to authorized users, on the basis of a specific authorization, or treat them as radioactive waste;
c) transfer the radioactive waste to a treatment facility;
d) decontaminate the premises and equipment it has used, where applicable, down to the exemption limit.

The cessation of activity becomes effective only after CNCAN has registered the letter notifying the cessation of activity, accompanied by the supporting documents, and, at least in cases where unsealed sources or sources presenting a contamination hazard have been used, after the working area has been inspected by an authorized representative of the Commission.

The cessation of activity is notified using form no. 6 or form no. 7, as applicable, in Annex no. 1 to the
Radiological Safety Norms – Authorization Procedures.

The Commission is required to keep the cessation of activity file for a period of 10 years.
