CNCAN 6
Enhancing CNCAN's capabilities in the field of ionizing radiation sources
Purpose:
Improving CNCAN's capacity to ensure the control of ionizing radiation sources, and developing the regulatory capabilities for the assessment and authorization of the new Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics facility.
Background:
The 2011 IRRS mission resulted in a number of recommendations and suggestions for improving the control of ionizing radiation sources, such as updating the regulations and aligning them with the latest basic safety standards for protection against exposure to ionizing radiation, developing CNCAN's capability to assess and authorize new radiological installations, and developing human resources through institutional cooperation, for example through the exchange of experience with NRPA of Norway or with other radiation protection authorities in Western Europe.
Results:
The programme will achieve the purpose described above and will lead in particular to the following results:
- The final draft of the CNCAN regulations on radiological safety and radiation protection, revised in accordance with the new Basic Safety Standards;
- The final draft of the authorization process and the guide for the authorization of the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics facility, which is to be built at Bucharest – Măgurele.
