Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (NEA/OECD)

At the invitation of the NEA/OECD, CNCAN has participated since 2000 in the Nuclear Law Committee with ad hoc observer status. In 2017, Romania became a member of the NEA/OECD. CNCAN participates in the main committees of the Council and their related working groups:

1. Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI)

  • CSNI Programme Review Group (PRG)
  • Working Group on Analysis and Management of Accidents (WGAMA)
  • Working Group on Risk Assessment (WGRISK)
  • Working Group on Fuel Cycle Safety (WGFCS)

2. Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA)

  • Working Group on Inspection Practices (WGIP)
  • Working Group on Operating Experience (WGOE)
  • Working Group on Public Communication of Nuclear Regulatory Organisations (WGPC)
  • Working Group on the Regulation of New Reactors (WGRNR)

 3. Committee on Radiological Protection and Public Health (CRPPH)

  4. Nuclear Law Committee (NLC)

Through the work carried out within these committees, the NEA/OECD supports the participating states in maintaining and continuously developing the knowledge and capabilities for assessing the safety of nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel cycle installations, in establishing guidelines on the regulation, licensing and inspection of nuclear installations so as to ensure an appropriate level of nuclear safety, and in identifying events that may occur and analysing their possible implications so that the necessary measures for protection against ionizing radiation can be taken.
