Controlled nuclear installations

Nuclear safety culture governs the attitudes and behaviours related to nuclear safety across the entire staff of CNCAN and is supported by the CNCAN management system. Within the organization and among its staff, a nuclear safety culture that meets the requirements is developed and is documented in the policy statements.
Nuclear safety culture is continuously assessed and improved. In its relations with licence holders and other interested parties, CNCAN promotes nuclear safety culture and contributes to a better understanding of this concept and of its associated characteristics and attributes by those involved in nuclear activities.

The following are of particular importance for a good nuclear safety culture:

  • the independence of CNCAN as a regulatory authority;
  • the competence and professionalism of management at all levels;
  • the clear definition of responsibilities and levels of authority;
  • the commitment to maintaining nuclear safety as the first priority in decision-making.
