Annual meeting of the regulatory authorities of countries with CANDU plants
Between 8 and 12 December 2025, the annual meeting of the group of representatives of the nuclear regulatory authorities of the countries operating CANDU-type nuclear power plants took place at CNCAN headquarters. The meeting was held under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and brought together, in addition to CNCAN experts, representatives from Argentina, Canada, the Republic of Korea and Pakistan, and from the IAEA.

During the discussions, the participants addressed a variety of issues relating to regulatory activity, the experience gained in operating CANDU technology, the lessons learned from recent events, with an emphasis on improving nuclear safety aspects, as well as the promotion of regional and international cooperation.

The programme of the meeting also included a technical visit to the site of the Cernavodă nuclear power plant and to the tritium removal facility (Cernavodă Tritium Removal Facility – CTRF).
The meeting took place in a constructive and professional setting and contributed to strengthening public confidence in the Romanian nuclear programme and to increasing Romania's visibility as an active and responsible partner in the nuclear field.
